Common questions

What exactly does an end-of-life doula do?

We provide non-medical support for people who are dying and their families. This includes help with advance care planning, emotional and practical support during the dying process, legacy projects, and grief companionship afterward. Think of us as the person who holds everything together when the medical team goes home.

Is this covered by insurance?

End-of-life doula services are not currently covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or most private insurance in Washington. This is why we keep our pricing transparent and offer sliding scale options. Some families use HSA/FSA funds — check with your provider.

How is this different from hospice?

Hospice is a medical service focused on pain management and clinical care. We complement hospice by filling the emotional, spiritual, and practical gaps. We handle the conversations hospice doesn't have time for, sit vigil when nurses can't stay, and support families through grief long after the medical team has moved on.

When should we reach out?

Earlier is better. Many families contact us months before the end of life, especially for advance planning. But we also support families in crisis — if someone is actively dying and you need help now, call us. There is no wrong time.

Do you serve families outside Lewis County?

Yes. We're based in Chehalis and primarily serve Lewis, Thurston, Cowlitz, Mason, and Grays Harbor counties. For families further out, we offer virtual consultations and can arrange in-person visits for key moments.
